New Section: Raw Data
Published by Cam August 21st, 2006 in Data, The BookIn order to keep our book a reasonable length, we couldn’t possibly use every neat idea or data source we found as an example. We did use the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) database in Chapters 5, 6, and 7. Also, in Chapter 11 we used a wide range of street and address data from the US Census Bureau’s TIGER/Line data set. Appendix A contains more links to neat and interesting data that we didn’t get a chance to use.
Since the book was published we’ve continued to find more and more sources of free mappable data. To document these finds for ourselves and others we’ve started a new section on this site called Raw Data. It’s sparse at the moment but with your help we hope to grow it into a very comprehensive resource.
Even if you can’t contribute content, at the very least, these links will give you some more interesting data to experiment with while you wait for that killer mashup idea to arrive.
If you know of some raw data that we can include in this resource please email cam#googlemapsbook.com.
